Revised Consultation on Future Provision at St Michael's on the Mount and St George Primary Schools

Closed 23 Oct 2020

Opened 25 Sep 2020

Bristol City Council is proposing to reorganise C of E primary school provision in Bristol city centre. The proposals are to close St Michael’s on the Mount and St George Primary Schools and open a combined school on the site of St Michael’s.  The new school is proposed to open on 1st September 2021.

The full proposals and associated statutory notice can be viewed at the bottom of this page.  Translated versions are available to view in Arabic and Somali.

After reading the proposals you can give your views by completing the feedback form which can be downloaded below.  Also available in Arabic and Solami.

Why your views matter

The law requires the publication of statutory proposals in order to close the existing schools and replace them with a new school.

Both schools have experienced falling rolls and pupil forecasting suggests that this will not change in the short to medium term.  Governors, the Diocese of Bristol and Bristol City Council have concluded that maintaining both school sites is unsustainable. A one form entry school on a single site will help to protect future  C of E education provision in the area.

What happens next

Views submitted in response to the proposals will be considered by Bristol City Council.  A final decision will be made by the Cabinet on 25 February 2021.

The Cabinet documents will be published online prior to the meeting.
