Overview

Bristol City Council is responsible for determining admission arrangements for all community and voluntary controlled (VC) school in Bristol.

We are not responsible for decisions made on behalf of other schools including; academies, foundation and voluntary aided schools.  However, in order to support all maintained Bristol schools who are looking to reach an audience for their consultation we are posting details of other schools' proposed admission arrangements herewith.

The Local Authority will be consulting on admission arrangements for the 2023/2024 academic year for LA admission authority schools in a separate consultation found at the following link

Why your views matter

The governing bodies of the following schools are consulting on their proposed admission arrangements for the 2023/2024 school year and are inviting comments on their proposals.  Please note, closing dates will vary.

Cathedral Schools Trust

  • Cathedral Choir School
  • Cathedral Primary School
  • Victoria Park Primary School

The Consultation can be found at the following link:

Admissions (cathedralschoolstrust.org)

The proposal is to remove the staff criterion* (see below), from the priority list for admissions for these schools; this is the only change. The criterion has been in place for a number of years and the admissions authority felt that it was an appropriate time to seek views from all stakeholders to determine whether it is still appropriate.

*Staff criterion (as set out in Admission Arrangements 2021/22 or 2022/23) - priority will be given to children who are sons/daughters of employees of the School. This will include all teaching and non-teaching staff who have;

a. been employed permanently at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, or;

b. where the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

Feedback can be sent to: consultation@cathedralschoolstrust.org

The consultation closes 11th January 2022

  • Cotham Gardens Primary School

Due to a fall in demand for primary school places in the area and the financial challenge of operating under capacity, the school is consulting reducing the PAN for reception from 90 to 60.

*Cotham Gardens had intended to run an in-person public meeting at the academy for stakeholders to express opinions and/or ask questions to school governors and management regarding the consultation.  Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic we have decided not to run this event in person, and therefore we intend to hold a virtual meeting via Zoom.  The Zoom meeting will be held on Tuesday 25th January 2022 at 6.00pm to 7.00pm.  Stakeholders are welcome to join the meeting using the following link:

Therefore, students on roll in Year 2 at Summerhill Infant School are given priority (over certain other categories of students) for a place in Summerhill Academy in Year 3. This is reflected in the revised oversubscription criteria.

No other elements of the Admissions policy and oversubscription criteria are changing.

The overall PAN of 182 will remain the same.
