Overview

The statutory definition of a Conservation Area is “an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character and appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance” (Planning (Listed Building and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, s.69(1)).

Adopted Conservation Area Character Appraisals are Planning Guidance with status as a material consideration in planning decisions.
