Bristol City Council has a duty under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 to plan and prepare for emergencies and warn and inform the public about the risks that threaten the city. This includes common emergencies such as gas leaks, burst water mains and house fires that may result in residents affected being asked to evacuate their homes, as well as more significant events such as widespread flooding or terrorist attacks.
